Julica Hermann de la FuenteSomething for the Journey

Julica Hermann de la Fuente, Lifelong Learning Manager

If you were one of the handful of people that read your enews mid-December, you saw an invitation to indicate interest in a Community of Practice – and if you click that link you will see the options of mutual aid, sanctuary and organizing skills as three possible topics.

Then, you might have noticed that last week we launched a drop-in weekly Learning Together space – and lo! The first three topics for the first three weeks are mutual aid, sanctuary and organizing skills. (Well, almost – I snuck in anti-racism to that list too.)

Mutual aid, sanctuary and organizing skills are the three topics that many of you identified as top interests for continuing education conversations. Some of you will want to do a brief drop-in to check out a topic or dip your toe (Learning Together). Others of you already know you need and want a group of colleagues to learn and journey together (Communities of Practice). I hope you take advantage of these opportunities as we get ready for inauguration (come crochet an emotional support chicken!) and the work that is yet to come.

Forward together, querides! Arriba y adelante!

Join UUMA & UUSC Efforts to Preserve Indigenous Culture in the South Pacific
from Manish Mishra-Marzetti, Co-Chair, UUSC Board of Trustees & UUMA member

UUMA, AUUMM, LREDA, DRUUMM, BLUU, EqUUal Access, UUMFE and other UU professional and affinity groups have joined together to support UUSC efforts at responding to climate change impacts in the South Pacific.

In the economically modest Pacific island nation of Kiribati, UUSC partners with grassroots activists in Te Toa Matoa, a disability rights federation.  Te Toa Matoa’s disabled artists help preserve Kiribati’s indigenous dance and music, which form the backbone of Kiribati’s cultural memory.

Te Toa Matoa’s disabled musicians have asked for UUSC’s support in replacing musical instruments and equipment that were ruined by storm-related water damage. UUSC has responded to this request by committing to raise $100,000 for Te Toa Matoa. Unitarian Universalist professional and affinity groups are collaborating in a first-of-its-kind partnership to support this important work of indigenous cultural preservation.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
In addition, stay tuned as the co-sponsoring organizations develop additional tools and opportunities to support Te Toa Matoa and the climate-impacted peoples of the South Pacific.
