Chapters & Groups

The UUMA uses the term “Group” to indicate any collection of UUMA Members. As we expand our virtual community we will be experimenting with different types of groups. To view the groups you are a member of, or are eligible to join, please log in and click on the Groups button in the Member Center.

To join or leave a Chapter or Group, click on the button “Member Center” at the top of this page and select “Groups.” When you click “Join Group” you are automatically added to the group and no further action is needed. To leave a group, use the drop down “hamburger” menu on the left side of the gray bar above the name of your chapter. Click on the menu and scroll down to the bottom and select “Withdraw From Group.” You will be asked to confirm that you want to leave the group.

Here is a link to a short video clip describing how to join or leave a chapter/group.

Some groups may have restrictions on membership and UUMA staff will receive a notification of a request to join and respond promptly. Study Groups are private and can only be accessed by group members.

Quick Links for Chapters and Groups:

Updating Your Page: Updating the content on a Chapter/Group page can only be done by UUMA Staff. To add, update, or remove content from your UUMA group web page, please use this Chapter/Group Page Update Form to request changes to your page such as adding upcoming events, Zoom links, how to contribute to your Chapter funds, etc.

File Library: Members of a chapter are able to upload documents such as meeting minutes, guiding documents, and other resources directly to the file library.

Send Broadcast Messages to Chapter Members: Any member of a chapter can send a message to the members of the group to communicate upcoming events, announcements of installations, ordinations, or requests for support, leadership volunteers, etc. Here is a short video clip describing how to send a message to your chapter.

Chapter Leadership: Your Chapter/Group page contains a list of chapter leaders, including the Good Offices people, the Tech Admin person, and elected leaders, along with their contact information.

Chapter Members: You can see a list of all the members of your chapter using the menu at the top left of the page next to the name of the chapter.

Discussion Forum: Chapter members can start and participate in discussion forums on various topics of their choosing. This may include sharing ideas, resources, or exploring various topics of shared interest. Watch this video to see how to access the discussion feature in your chapter page.

Only UUMA Staff can update the information on your chapter page. There are several ways to request updates:

This is an important resource to guide Chapter Leaders in developing a vibrant and connected chapter. Refer to the Chapter Leader Handbook for information about the “Why, How, and What of the UUMA,” the purpose of UUMA chapters, how to organize and operate a chapter, and how chapter leaders are equipped and supported.

The UUMA Bylaws say that UUMA voting members may organize and apply for chapter status to the Board of Trustees. Newly organized groups within our membership may apply for Chapter status using this Application for Chapter Status. Existing chapters can use this form to request your annual chapter subsidy: Chapter Subsidy Request.

The UUMA is committed to creating spaces that are accessible for all. This Making UUMA Events Accessible offers several areas of consideration for creating a more welcoming space for your events.

As more non-geographic chapters have formed in the UUMA, it has become clear that some non-geographic chapters may require additional resources to be the flourishing source of connection and support that so many of our colleagues yearn for.

Because we need one another, we have discerned specific resources that we can offer to you as chapter leaders in the spirit of nurturing equity and inclusion and in hopes that they might create more experiences of belonging for more colleagues. These resources were brainstormed by continental staff and we look forward to being in conversation with you about what we can offer differently or additionally to support your leadership and the development of your chapter. Learn more about the possibilities for additional support for your non-geographic chapter.

Study groups that are open to UUMA Members may apply for a group page. Membership is determined by the specific study group. For more information about who to contact about participating in a study group, email UUMA Staff.
