Something for the Journey
Rev. Leslie Takahashi, President of the UUMA Board of Trustees
If ever there was a time when we need one another, it is now. With our nation moving away from organized faith communities, an extreme level of conflict in our nation and world, economic pressures squeezing resources, and many of us taking on new and uncharted forms of ministry—we need to learn from one another more than ever.
The daily pressures of doing ministry with fewer volunteers and more logistical conundrums is beyond exhausting. So, as one colleague reminded me last week, making time for the care of our own souls is essential. For many of us, soul nourishment is found in community and collegial community is often the magical, healing elixir.
Your UUMA Board is committed to helping us evolve to meet these challenges. We know that collegiality is changing and we need to keep experimenting with ways we can engage in dialogue and support one another across differences in experience, generation, situations and forms of ministry. At our Annual Business meeting, we envision time for business AND for hearing from one another.
In May, we offered two sessions on the agenda items including by-laws changes. If you missed these AND still have questions or concerns, please email us at board@uuma.org. While we know no one wants another Zoom gathering, coming together to do the business that allows us to continue to learn and respond together is essential, so we hope to see you there.
And in the meantime, please take good care of your precious self and may small fragments of beauty sustain your spirit.
