Something for the Journey
from Melissa Carvill Ziemer, Director of Ministries for Collegial Care
Did you know we now have a specialty role to help ministers who are negotiating contracts and letters of agreement? The members of this team were appointed last February, completed their training last May, and are available to support you whenever you are negotiating an agreement whether it be at the beginning, middle or end of a ministry. The members of the Contract/Call Negotiation Support Team are available to help you review your contract, identify areas you’d like to negotiate, and are also able to help you brush up on the kinds of skills negotiation requires. Good Offices has long supported people negotiating resignations, but supporting re-negotiation mid-ministry and negotiation support at the beginning of a ministry hasn’t been consistently available. We’ve already had several people request this support and express appreciation for the practical assistance.
The Good Offices Contract/Call Negotiation Support Team is our second Good Offices specialty team. The first one we created is the Good Offices Right Relationship Team. This team is here to offer support when a covenant between colleagues has been broken and/or whenever a person wishes to explore enacting the Accountability Guidelines in our Code of Conduct. If you think you would like to be matched with a member of either of these specialty teams, please reach out to me and I will be glad to assist you.
If you aren’t sure what sort of Good Offices support you need, I encourage you to reach out to one of your chapter elected Good Offices people for a first conversation. They may be well positioned to support you and are able to refer when that is warranted. If your needs are such that you need to talk to a Good Offices person outside of your chapter, or with a particular type of experience and you aren’t sure who to approach, please send me an email or give me a call. I’ll be happy to help you get connected with the support you need.
