Opportunity for Direct Support

Solidarity in Motion connects volunteer drivers with unaccompanied immigrant children who need rides to their court appointments. In many cases, their host families are afraid to go to immigration court. Missed appointments can result in these youth receiving deportation orders.  The program is a partnership between UUSC, IRC, and the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship.

Through Solidarity in Motion, folx have an opportunity to put their faith in action by accompanying these young people to court. They can volunteer to drive them or to ride along with a driver. Signing up as a volunteer does not commit anyone to providing transportation. If an opportunity arises, a volunteer coordinator will reach out to check their availability.

Fliers in color/B&W (and in two sizes) that can be printed and shared are included below. We are asking potential volunteers to fill out an interest form found at https://tinyurl.com/simvolunteer. We will then follow up with more information and a training video that goes into detail about the program and the court experience.

Due to security concerns, we are not promoting this opportunity online (websites or social media) outside of behind our membership sign in. If you would like to share the opportunity in a newsletter that gets posted online, our partners ask that they use more generic language such as:

“Volunteers are needed to help get our neighbors to their court appointments. To learn more about how you can help through UUSC’s Solidarity in Motion program, please contact XX.” Once someone reaches out, they (or another volunteer) can send them the link to the interest form. They are welcome to provide more detail in emails or in person (anywhere not searchable).
