Zoom Accounts Update for UUMA Members

We want to share a few updates and clarifications regarding UUMA Zoom accounts, especially in light of recent announcement from the UUA.

First, UUMA has recently renegotiated our Zoom contract, and our accounts are not going away. When we began those negotiations last November, we were not yet aware of the forthcoming updates to the UUA’s program.

UUMA Zoom accounts remain a benefit of membership, and we do not sell them directly to congregations. During the pandemic, we made accounts more broadly available to meet urgent needs. Once the UUA began offering its own congregational Zoom program, we returned to our original framing: these accounts are intended as a member benefit, as reflected in our current guidelines.

In practice, we have not strictly enforced limits when members use their accounts in congregational contexts. However, our policy continues to center the individual member as the account holder, rather than the congregation itself.

Action Required: Renew by March 31

If you currently hold a Zoom license through the UUMA, please be sure to renew by March 31. You can renew your account here.

If we do not hear from you by March 31, we will return your account to a basic (free) Zoom account and offer the enterprise license to another member who may need it in light of the UUA changes.

UUA Program Changes (Brief Overview)

The UUA has announced that its Congregational Zoom License Reseller Program will end on July 1, 2026, as congregations are now able to access discounted rates directly through Zoom’s nonprofit program (“Zoom Cares”). Congregations will be supported in transitioning their accounts and working directly with Zoom moving forward. To participate in Zoom Cares Congregations must have an independent 501c.3 (that is not associated with the UUA).

Looking Ahead

We recognize that these changes may impact how members and congregations think about Zoom access. If the UUA transition creates challenges for our members, we are open to revisiting our language around congregational use of UUMA accounts.

At the same time, as a member association, we remain committed to keeping the member as the primary account holder. We will continue to monitor how these changes unfold and communicate any updates as needed.

If you have questions or would like to share how these changes are affecting your ministry, please be in touch.
