Becoming a Coach at the UUMA

Coach training is offered in two installments:

Our general coach training program is available every spring (April/May). This 4-session series covers a fundamental approach to coaching and some basic coaching techniques. This program is led by Julica, the UUMA’s Lifelong Learning Manager, and utilizes The Coaching Habit: Say Less, Ask More & Change the Way You Lead Forever by Michael Bungay Stanier as a textbook.

Recordings of and materials for this coaching training are available here. Any open coaching trainings will be listed on our calendar.

Once you’ve participated in the general coach training, please fill out this form to express interest in becoming a UUMA coach. You are welcome to apply to become a coach for any or all of the three different coaching options:

  • Anti-Racism Coaching – by and for white colleagues, this coaching program is intended to provide an ongoing accountable relationship for allies and accomplices to continue their work in dismantling white supremacy culture.
  • Review Team Coaching – Coaching for colleagues being held in care by the UUA Review Team, after a conflicted ending in parish ministry.
  • After-Pastor Coaching – Coaching for colleagues who have recently discovered their parish setting is an after-pastor congregation. (Note: it is a sad truth that many of our congregations are after-pastor, and arguably most parish ministers could benefit from support in navigating the challenges of after-pastor dynamics. This particular coaching is especially for colleagues who are surprised to find out their new parish setting is after-pastor through initial disclosures; the information was not included in the congregational packet and the congregation has not done any work to address the history of misconduct. This coaching supports colleagues through the process of navigating the first few steps when this discovery has been made.)
