Happy Clergy Appreciation Month!

We wish you a month filled with appreciation from those you serve as well as from one another (and of course all of us here at the UUMA).

May you be reminded of your call, of your commitment, and of the love, justice, and grace you bring into the world.

In appreciation of all you do, we want to remind you that there are funds available to you to help support you in your ministry. If you are in need of some self care and cost is a barrier, please consider requesting funds from the sustainability fund – a fund created for just this purpose. Or if you’re wanting to engage in spiritual direction but can’t quite afford it, consider requesting funds from our spiritual direction fund. And if you ever have a surplus of funds, consider donating to either of the funds so that others may benefit.

Something for the Journey

I started working for the UUMA in July 2019. I remember sitting in the Annual Meeting in Spokane, WA thrilled to be joining the team and wondering what being a part of the team would feel like. Little did we know what the next year(s) would hold. The UUMA and our staff have seen all of us through some major global moments. We have acted courageously, called towards collective liberation, and learned more than we ever wanted to about Zoom. We have learned how to pivot and then pivot our pivots.

In my own little corner of the world the UUMA and, most specifically, our amazing staff has seen me through some of the most monumental moments of my life. I moved across the country to be near family and became a parent in my first year of working here. In my third and fourth years I lost my dad, cared for my mom, and welcomed our second child. In the fifth year of my work here I lost my mom. In the sixth year we moved across the country again and now, in my 7th year we will welcome our third and final baby.

Through it all I have known one thing to be true: that these fabulous people have my back. Not just when it comes to work, although they have covered a great deal while my life was life-ing, but also supporting me as a whole person, an exhausted new parent, a grieving and angry daughter. The team has celebrated milestones with my children and marveled at their ability to interrupt a meeting. They have held us as a family even when family needs have pulled me away from 100% focus on work. If you would like to join the UUMA staff and board in supporting my leave here are a couple ways to do that:

By the time you’re reading this I will be out on parental leave, returning at the beginning of the New Year. While I am exhausted and soaking up newborn snuggles (or maybe wrestling the almost 3 year old into pajamas he loved yesterday but loathes today, or trying to convince the first grader to not write “67” on everything) the admin team will be holding supporting our myriad of programs. Should you need anything you can reach out to the team at support@uuma.org. They will either be able to help you or direct your communication to the appropriate staff member.

Our Website is Having a Moment: We’ve heard reports of our website behaving a little strangely lately. In addition to some temperamental group broadcast messaging within chapters, we’re seeing an intermittent issue that is redirecting people looking for certain member-only pages back to the Member Center.

We’ve been in touch with our web developers and are working to isolate and correct the problem. Because the issue isn’t showing up consistently across platforms—or even consistently from one visit to the next—it’s taking a little extra sleuthing.

Thank you for your patience and generosity of spirit while we work to get everything behaving as it should.
